What are the benefits of applying to Springboard?

Springboard provides an opportunity for winners to launch a new idea/project for the benefit of the greater WNY entrepreneurial ecosystem. It is a chance to receive a $5,000 to $25,000 award for one year of programming, increase visibility of your idea or organization, and create awareness for your contributions to the ecosystem. It’s your chance to help grow WNY’s business community and regional economy.

My business/organization is located outside of Allegany, Cattaraugus, Chautauqua, Erie, Genesee, Monroe, Niagara, Orleans and Wyoming, but my project benefits entrepreneurs in those counties, am I eligible to apply?

You must deliver the program within the nine counties of Allegany, Cattaraugus, Chautauqua, Erie, Genesee, Monore, Niagara, Orleans, or Wyoming.

I am an entrepreneur looking for funds to further my operations. Is this program a good fit for me?

The idea, program, product, or service you are proposing must ultimately and clearly benefit entrepreneurs outside or beyond your own business.

I am looking for funding for a program that won’t happen until 2026, should I apply?

No. All funds must be spent within one year of the prize award. 

Where will the award events be held?

The June event will be held in Rochester, the August event will be held in Buffalo and the October event will be held in Jamestown or Olean. 

Does it matter which round I apply in?

No. Any eligible applicant from any of the nine counties can apply in any round.

Is it easy to apply?

Yes. The application is a two-page questionnaire and a budget.

Can I apply more than once?

No. Applicants must choose only one round to apply (whether or not they are successful). If applicants apply to more than one round, the second application will be void. 

What is required of finalists?

Finalists will be invited to be interviewed by the judging panel and need to be present at their region’s award event to accept the prize.

What is required of winners?

Winners will need to participate in the development of promotional materials such as a storytelling video and/or podcast, digital communications, earned media outreach, and/or print ads. 

I am unwilling to participate in the awards event, and I don’t want to be featured in promotional materials, should I apply?

No. All winners will be required to participate in the awards event and in promotional materials.

Am I required to have matching funds committed to my proposed project to win the prize?

No. There are no matching requirements to win the prize. You will be asked to explain any additional funds committed to the proposed project in your application and budget.
